AFIOS Store
The AFIOS store structure was designed to be a self-sufficient and multi-modal store/expo area for use in various different environments, initially created as part of a solar panel based interconnected power-sharing ecosystem. The objective of these pods is to provide a safe and connected space for local merchants to conduct business, and develop local economies.
These pods would generate electricity via rooftop solar panels (see below) and share with neighboring pods and vice-versa. The multi-modal front “gate” works both as a security measure, as well as a barrier to create a private storefront/homefront and display/hang goods, artwork, products or technical tools.
Materials for the pods were chosen for ease and sustainability: walls could be made from a variety of resources, frame in wood/metal, front gate in wood/metal, glass front.
Critiques: Glass storefront may be complicated/expensive to produce (can substitute with fabric or locally-sourced material storefront due to protection from front-gate), high initial investment to create ecosystem.
